What Is Cellulite?

Most women have some degree of cellulite. Even though fat is involved in the appearance of cellulite, losing weight won’t necessarily minimize the dimpled look on the buttocks and thighs. Cellulite dimples are caused by fibrous bands, called septae, that run from the skin through the underlying fat and pull down the skin. This tethering causes the fat to push up, creating a dimpled, orange-peel appearance.

What Is Avéli?

Avéli is a safe and effective cellulite treatment for the thighs and buttocks. It precisely targets individual dimples and provides instant results because it releases the septae that cause cellulite.

Avéli is strictly a cellulite treatment. If you are bothered by excess fat, consider noninvasive CoolSculpting® Elite or liposuction surgery. If you have lax skin, consider nonsurgical skin tightening with Sofwave™ or surgical skin tightening.

What Happens During an Avéli Cellulite Treatment?

We perform Avéli as an office treatment that takes about an hour to complete. While you are standing, your provider will circle the targeted dimples. Next, you will lie face down on the treatment table, and your provider will inject a local anesthetic to control any discomfort. Once you are numb, your provider will insert the Avéli device through a tiny incision in the buttock crease or upper thigh near the targeted dimples. The device’s lighted tip glows through the skin to guide your provider to each targeted dimple. Once a targeted dimple is reached, your provider will tug on the septa with the device’s hook and release the septa with a retractable blade on the device. The process will be repeated until all targeted dimples are treated.

What Is the Recovery Time for Avéli?

Downtime after Avéli is minimal. Expect treated areas to be sore, mildly bruised, and swollen initially.

Recovery Timeline

While experiences vary, here is a general timeline of what to expect after treatment:

24 to 48 hours: Resume normal activities and nonstrenuous exercise.

1 to 2 weeks: Minimize bruising and swelling by wearing compressive clothing like biking shorts or yoga pants as much as possible.

1 month: Final results achieved. Swelling, bruising, and tenderness resolve. Resume strenuous exercise.

How many treatments are needed?

Because each dimple is located, treated, and confirmed, patients need just a single treatment.

How long do results last?

Results last indefinitely. However, additional cellulite dimples may develop over time and require treatment.
