Neck Lift

A firm, smooth neck can easily be overlooked until it becomes lax and crepey, and vertical bands form. If your neck is giving away your age or making you look even older than you are, consider a neck lift in Rochester, New York, with Dr. Calvin Young. He is a highly trained and experienced plastic surgeon who can restore a more youthful look for patients from Brighton, Fairport, Webster, and surrounding communities. Cosmetic surgery on the neck can help you feel more confident when you put on your favorite shirt or necklace and see yourself online and in photos.

Are You a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?

Women and men in their 40s and up are often good candidates for neck lift surgery. While Dr. Young frequently performs neck lift as part of a facelift, he can also perform the procedure on its own. A neck lift is a good choice for people with any of the following concerns:

  • Lax, crepey skin (turkey neck)
  • A double chin, jowls, and other fat deposits
  • Vertical banding of the platysma muscles

Nonsurgical alternatives to a neck lift include KYBELLA® injections or CoolSculpting® for fat reduction and skin tightening with Sofwave™ or Zaffiro. Dr. Young may recommend a combination of surgical and nonsurgical procedures to complete the rejuvenation.

How Is a Neck Lift Performed?

Dr. Young performs neck lift surgery as an outpatient procedure using a general anesthetic or local anesthetic with IV sedation. The incision may be placed under the chin, in front of the lower ear, or in both locations. When performed with a facelift, he often uses the same incisions for both procedures. Through the incisions, Dr. Young lifts sagging tissues, tightens neck muscles, and removes fat with liposuction. He then redrapes the skin and removes the excess for a smooth contour.

How Long Does It Take To Recover From a Neck Lift?

Neck lift patients are usually ready to return to non-strenuous jobs and normal daily activities in about 1 to 2 weeks. After surgery, your neck will be wrapped in a compression bandage to control swelling and bruising. You will need to keep your head elevated at all times (including when you sleep) and avoid turning your head for the first week. Your slimmer, smoother neck contours will become noticeable as swelling fades, which takes about a month.

How Long Do Neck Lift Results Last?

The improvements from neck lift surgery last approximately 10 to 15 years when patients maintain a stable weight, limit sun exposure, and avoid smoking. Consistent use of high-quality sunscreen and skincare products will extend the life of a neck lift as well.
