At Dermatology Associates of Rochester, we are pleased to introduce the Vbeam® Prima laser, the next generation of the Vbeam® Perfecta pulsed-dye laser. Prima offers faster, more efficient treatments than Perfecta with enhanced comfort. In addition to treating redness, it treats acne, wrinkles, excess pigment, and more.

What does the Vbeam laser treat?
We use the Vbeam Prima laser for spider vein removal at our Rochester, NY, practice. In addition, this versatile laser treats the following conditions with no damage to the surrounding skin:
Rosacea (redness/blood vessels)
Angiomas and spider angiomas
Facial and leg veins
Deep blue veins and venous lakes
Inflammatory acne vulgaris
Port wine stains
Pink or red scars
Sunspots, age spots, and other excess pigmentation
Sometimes, our providers recommend this laser for treating stubborn warts.
How does the Vbeam laser work?
The Vbeam is a non-ablative laser that produces a gentle burst of concentrated laser energy that selectively destroys the blood vessels of vascular lesions or melanin in pigmented areas without damaging the surrounding skin and tissue. Glacial® Rx treatments are an alternative that correct excess pigment and redness using controlled cooling (cryotherapy) instead of heat. Your body resorbs the destroyed blood vessels or melanin, resulting in the removal of the surface redness or capillaries.
How much does Vbeam cost in Rochester, NY?
It depends on the size of the area that is being treated and the number of treatments needed. A customized cost estimate will be given to you at your consultation with one of our providers.
Is the Vbeam laser safe?
The Vbeam laser has been in use for many years and is very popular because of its well-established safety profile and minimal side effects.
Specializing in Concierge Treatment Designed for You
We established Dermatology Associates of Rochester to provide quality, compassionate medical and cosmetic skincare and plastic surgery services in a boutique setting where patients felt like part of an extended family. Our board-certified dermatologists, plastic surgeon, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses work together with our professional staff to ensure you enjoy an exceptional experience each time you visit.
Prior to your Vbeam treatment, your skin will be cleansed and protective eyewear will be applied. The laser will be calibrated based on the condition being treated. The Prima laser’s adjustable spot size makes treatments faster and more even. Each treatment may require one or several pulses depending on the type of condition being treated.
Do Vbeam Prima treatments hurt?
Patients typically report minimal discomfort during Vbeam Prima treatments because a cooling mist is sprayed onto the skin before each pulse of the laser. In addition, Prima has a new contact cooling handpiece for enhanced comfort over Perfecta treatments.
How long does a Vbeam treatment take?
Vbeam Prima treatments typically take 15 to 30 minutes to complete. Actual treatment times depend on the size of the treatment area and targeted conditions.
What can I expect after a Vbeam treatment? Are there side effects?
The destruction of blood vessels and/or pigment results in a reduction of the appearance of the targeted skin blemish. There is typically minimal downtime. It is normal to see some redness and mild swelling for the first 12 hours, which may be reduced by applying ice. Sometimes a temporary bruise (called purpura) may occur, which can last 3 to 5 days.
What precautions do I need to take before and after my treatment?
Avoid the sun 4 to 6 weeks before and after treatment. Patients who are actively tan or sunburned will need to re-schedule their treatment sessions. Additionally, you cannot be treated if you have a spray or artificial tan. Broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen SPF 30 or higher should be used after treatments. Post-treatment guidelines will be provided after your treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
It depends on the condition being treated but on average can take 2 to 5 treatments, scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart.
What results should I expect?
Results vary from person to person and depend on many factors, like the condition being treated and the lifestyle of the patient. For example, if a patient has sun spots removed, and continues to spend time in the sun without adequate skin protection, it is likely that the sunspots will return.
