BOTOX®, Dysport®, & XEOMIN®
Rochester, NY, women and men considering BOTOX know that crow’s feet and “worry lines” are some of the earliest signs of aging. These wrinkles can create an angry or tired appearance and make you look years older. BOTOX, Dysport, and XEOMIN help patients from Brighton, Irondequoit, Henrietta, and beyond smooth out wrinkles and fine lines in a natural-looking way.
Expertise Makes a Difference
BOTOX, Dysport, and XEOMIN injections take only a few minutes, and you can resume your normal activities immediately after the treatment. Even though the procedure is extremely safe, it is still a medical treatment and requires injectors with advanced training to ensure you get the desired results. Our board-certified dermatologists and nurse practitioners have the skill, experience, and sense of aesthetics to create natural-looking results that avoid a “frozen” appearance and customize treatments to meet your individual cosmetic goals.

How BOTOX Works
BOTOX, Dysport, and XEOMIN all belong to a class of drugs called neuromodulators. When strategically injected, they work by temporarily relaxing the tiny facial muscles that cause wrinkles to develop. Unlike lines and wrinkles caused by sun exposure and the skin’s natural aging process, the dynamic wrinkles targeted by BOTOX are created by repeated muscle contractions as you change expressions.
The Difference Between Neuromodulators and Dermal Fillers
Neuromodulators and dermal fillers are both injectable treatments, but they work in different ways and address different types of wrinkles. While neuromodulators address dynamic wrinkles, dermal fillers use gels to restore volume to areas of the face where the aging process created lines and wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds or thinning lips.

What Does BOTOX, Dysport, or XEOMIN Treat?
Neuromodulator injections can address a number of concerns that our patients have about their appearance. These treatments create a more youthful appearance without limiting your facial expressions. The areas usually targeted by these treatments include:
- Frown lines between the eyebrows, also called glabellar lines or “11s”
- Crow’s feet around the outer corners of the eyes
- Forehead lines
- At-rest frowning
- Brow lifting
- Gummy smile
- Bunny lines – lines on the nose
- Enlarged masseter muscles which cause a squared jawline
- Neck bands
- Lines above and below the lips
Some of the areas listed are considered “off-label” uses, meaning the products are specifically approved by the FDA for those treatment areas.
BOTOX, Dysport, and XEOMIN results look natural when treatments are performed by a skilled injector. You’ll retain the ability to make a full range of facial expressions, though your movements will be a little less pronounced. We are always careful to create flattering, subtle results that don’t look “frozen” or “overdone.”
What to Avoid After Treatment
You should postpone working out for 24 hours and avoid laying down for 3 to 4 hours. You should also refrain from rubbing or touching the treated area for 1 day after your BOTOX, Dysport, or XEOMIN session.

BOTOX, Dysport, XEOMIN: What’s the Difference?
Although the 3 products are very similar, some differences exist. Some patients may see better results using BOTOX, for example, while other patients may prefer Dysport. The amount needed to produce the desired results can also vary, and our specialists may recommend using a certain product for a specific area. Having experienced injectors benefits our patients because they understand the subtle differences in how each of the products performs and the results each can produce.
What Is the Cost of BOTOX®, Dysport, and XEOMIN Treatment in Rochester, NY?
Because each patient comes to us with unique concerns, it’s difficult to provide an accurate estimate of a general cost. The cost of your treatment sessions is tailored to your individual needs and desires. We charge patients a per-unit price, which is a more transparent method than charging per area, as some other practices do.
During your initial consultation, we’ll provide a written quote to help you plan. Dermatology Associates of Rochester prides itself on our extensive history of producing successful treatments and customizing procedures to meet the specific needs of our patients.
Do the injections hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation as similar to being pinched, but it’s rare for any discomfort to linger. If requested, we offer a topical numbing cream prior to your injections to keep you as comfortable as possible. Patients typically return to work or other activities immediately after their treatments, which usually take 15 minutes or less. Some people experience soreness and redness at the injection site, which typically resolves on its own within 24 hours.
Are BOTOX, Dysport, and XEOMIN safe?
All 3 products are approved by the FDA and have extensive track records for being safe and effective. BOTOX Cosmetic has been on the market the longest of the 3, and studies consistently show it to be extremely safe. The best way to minimize the risk of unwanted side effects is to choose experienced and highly trained injectors. BOTOX is the only product approved by the FDA to treat cosmetic concerns such as excessive underarm sweating, crow’s feet, and moderate to severe forehead lines.
How long do the results last?
These treatments produce temporary results generally lasting up to 3 months. Depending on the product used, you’ll notice results within a week to 10 days. We closely follow the manufacturers’ instructions for the preparation of each dose so that we maximize the duration of the results. Patients who get injections to maintain their results may notice the effects last longer.
Can I combine BOTOX and Dysport with other procedures?
Absolutely. BOTOX is excellent on its own, but you can make your results even more dramatic by adding skin rejuvenation procedures, such as Halo™ Pro, Fraxel®, or dermal fillers such as lip fillers. Your practitioner will be happy to guide you through decisions like this during your consultation.
