How My miraDry® Treatment Went: Katie’s Story

Dermatology Associates of Rochester

Many of you know Katie, our CoolSculpting® Team Leader and a great asset to our team. Well, Katie bit the bullet and scheduled a miraDry® treatment at our Rochester dermatology clinic.

“I didn’t necessarily sweat profusely,” said Katie. “But when I work out and especially in the summer months, I’d be self-conscious and I wanted to do something about it. Plus, I wanted to be able to select any item from my closet and not have to worry if sweat marks would show.”

While BOTOX® is sometimes used to temporarily reduce excessive sweating, miraDry offers more long-term results. You can read more about what makes Katie and other men and women good candidates for miraDry treatments in our related blog post.

We talked to Katie and asked her opinion about her miraDry treatment experience and the days following. Here is what Katie had to say:

The miraDry Treatment

My treatment took less than 2 hours start to finish, and I did experience a tingling sensation during it, but I wouldn’t say it was painful. I’m ticklish under my arms, so I’m sure I was a little more reactive than some people.

Once I was done, I immediately started icing 10 minutes on, and 10 minutes off. But I had my treatment mid-day, so I was literally back to work once it was over.

I could feel a little swelling as the day went on, so I iced on and off before bedtime. The cool soothed some of the heat feeling, and it took the swelling down, too.

Day One Following Treatment

I was pretty swollen the next morning when I woke up and my underarms were mildly tender. I marked it as a 2/10 pain.

I kept the icing routine going and it took the swelling down and really soothed the area during the day. I took a little ibuprofen, but that was only in the morning.

Day Two Following Treatment

I felt minimal discomfort on day two, but my swelling remained the same. I didn’t feel medication was necessary at this point as I wasn’t uncomfortable with my daily activities.  Day two was when my bruising appeared – but it was only on my right side for whatever reason.

I was so caught up in my day that I forgot to ice, and didn’t even notice!

Day Three Following Treatment

The bruise is a little more colorful – but my tenderness level stayed the same and I really felt minimal discomfort. My swelling reduced and continued to as the day went on.

I didn’t need ice or medicine today. At this point, my arms rest comfortably at my sides with minimal discomfort.

The biggest thing – I am completely sweat-free. It was a particularly hot day, too, so I really noticed a difference. However, I still reminded myself to not do a lot of physical activity.

You heard it first-hand from our trusted team member, Katie! She’s really on-par with other patient experiences post-treatment. (You can read what other men and women throughout the country have to say about their miraDry treatments on the RealSelf site.)

Awesome to hear that miraDry was a good experience for you. I’m still on a strong antiperspirants (certain dri right now) but I’m thinking of giving miraDry a shot.
